Growing together.

Whoever you are, wherever you're from, you are welcome here.

The Purple Door Youth Ministry exists to help teens explore their faith in an environment where it is safe to ask questions and where others come alongside them on this journey as they grow in faith, love, and maturity in Christ.   Our Youth Ministry is committed to making sure every high school student feels cared for and known through our Wednesday night student groups and our fellowship event, and our mission trips.  In these settings, students will be connected to a community of friends and adult leaders who will help guide them in their walk with Jesus .

High School

During the school year, the Purple Door Youth Group meets downstairs in the Youth Room for Fellowship, Bible Study, Games, and Worship on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Every month we meet in small groups to promote authenticity and connect with each other. In small groups we discuss current topics and how to best live a Christian life in light of them. The summer brings a diverse set of ministry opportunities such as a mission trip, game nights, bonfires, lock-ins, and other outings.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity for people to affirm for themselves the promises that their parents, sponsors and congregation made for them at their baptism. At baptism, parents make this promise: “… to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy Scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”
At their confirmation, confirmands are asked to make this promise for themselves: “…to live among God’s faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.” The process of preparing people to affirm these promises includes classes, summer camp, and increased involvement in congregational life. The end goal is to prepare people to boldly and confidently make those promises themselves, affirm their baptisms and continue to live out their faith in a dynamic relationship with God.
At St. John, 7th and 8th Grade students are invited to participate in confirmation classes during WOW.

Confirmation Camp

Our soon-to-be 7th and 8th grade youth enjoy a fun week at Camp Lutherwald learning about the bible, themselves and each other. From ziplining to lessons to water volleyball to skits, the learning and love never stops. This is a memorable week for all involved.

Mission Trip

Each summer the Purple Door Youth go on a workcamp- style mission trip where we serve individuals and families with home repair and projects. The location of these trips varies around the country but all serve the purpose of helping youth and leaders remember what it means to truly serve someone in need.
